Type of application / System Requirements
Dokeos is a web-based Learning Management System running as a server application. The software development is a fork of Claroline and the software is published under the GNU GPL. Dokeos can be installed on Windows, Mac OS X and Unix servers but using Linus is recommended for scalability. To run the current Dokeos version 1.8.4 you need to install PHP, MySQL and Apache, e.g. using a XAMPP package installer. For more information have a look in the installation manual.

For Dokeos videoconferencing you need:
Purpose
Dokeos describes itself as an open source learning suite that provides:
- Learning management: SCORM import, edit and export, social interaction, sophisticated test and surveys
- Oogie Rapid Learning: build SCORM courses online from templates, from Powerpoint...
- Accurate reporting that you can export to Excel, Business Objects...
- Videoconferencing: virtual meeting and virtual classroom for live training sessions
What it does
Teachers / tutors can create courses with different types of learning materials and interaction elements.
For each course a tutor can define a learning path that structures the course content. It is possible to add SCORM 1.2 or AICC modules, incl. transformed Powerpoint/Impress presentations with the additional software Oogie. Tutors can control the progress of students that are subscribed to a course.
Dokeos offers all content in courses. Each user sees all subscribed courses in the view "My courses". There is no repository view on the content or a search engine to find content in another course.
How can it be used for creation of OERs
Due to its restricted authoring features Dokeos LMS is not a good choice for creating OER. But with Oogie Rapid Learning Powerpoint and Impress presentations can be transformed easily to SCORM 1.2 compliant courses.
How can it be used for consumption of OERs
SCORM 1.2 module and files (incl. audio and video files) can be imported and used in Dokeos courses. But all OER have to be part of a course. A course-independent presentation is not possible.
License support
There is no built-in support for licenses, or license requirements.
Standards / Compatibility
Dokeos offers a SCORM 1.2 player. But the software has not been certified as SCORM compliant software by ADL.

Dokeos offers a demo version called "Free Campus" at http://campus.dokeos.com. After registration you can create your own course, define a learning path, add learning material or a test to the course and run it with some default users that already assigned to the course.
